Example configurations for zones include the following:
A zone on shared storage with a rootzpool resource. The operating system software is stored in a dedicated zpool, and all non-operating system software and data is stored in datasets that are descendent from the zone root dataset. System operations that snapshot and clone the operating system also snapshot and clone non-operating system software and data.
A zone on shared storage with a rootzpool resource and one or more zpool resources. The operating system is stored in the rootzpool, and all non-operating system software and data are stored within other zpools. System operations that snapshot and clone the operating system do not include non-operating system software and data.
A zone with the default systems-local zonepath. This zone stores the operating system in the zonepath. System operations that snapshot and clone the operating system can include non-operating system software and data.
