Time Slider preferences pane allows you to enable or disable Time Slider, and provides access to the following features:
Backing up to an external storage device
Backing up file systems
Changing storage space available to snapshots
Deleting existing snapshots
By default, Time Slider is disabled. You can enable it using the steps mentioned in the following sections. When enabled, Time Slider uses the following SMF services:
svc:/system/filesystem/zfs/auto-snapshot:frequent: Takes one snapshot every 15 minutes
svc:/system/filesystem/zfs/auto-snapshot:hourly: Takes one snapshot every hour
svc:/system/filesystem/zfs/auto-snapshot:daily: Takes one snapshot every day
svc:/system/filesystem/zfs/auto-snapshot:weekly: Takes one snapshot every week
svc:/system/filesystem/zfs/auto-snapshot:monthly: Takes one snapshot every month
svc:/application/time-slider:default: Manages automatic deletion of snapshots
svc:/application/time-slider/plugin:rsync: Replicates each snapshot automatically to a specified external storage device
Time Slider is enabled for all available ZFS file systems. To exclude one or more ZFS file systems, see How to Choose a Specific ZFS File System to Snapshot.
Time Slider is disabled for all available ZFS file systems.
