System Registration and System Support Changes

Oracle Configuration Manager is used to personalize and enhance the customer support experience by collecting configuration information and uploading it to the Management Repository. This information is then analyzed by customer support representatives to provide better service to customers. Benefits of using this feature include reduced time for problem resolution, proactive problem avoidance, and access to best practices and the Oracle knowledge base. In some Oracle Solaris 10 releases, the Auto Registration feature performs a similar function. Starting with the Oracle Solaris 10 1/13 release, Oracle Configuration Manager replaces the Auto Registration feature.

You can configure the Oracle Configuration Manager and the Oracle Auto Service Request features during an interactive installation, if you plan to install these features on your system. Several options are available to choose from during an installation, including the ability to start Oracle Configuration Manager in the disconnected mode. This option replaces the “opt out” choice that is available in the Oracle 11 11/11 release. If you choose the disconnected mode option, no data is sent to My Oracle Support during the first reboot after an installation. Note that you can manually activate Oracle Configuration Manager later. Oracle Auto Service Request (ASR) is a secure, customer-installable feature of your Oracle or Sun hardware warranty and Oracle Premier Support for Systems. ASR assists in resolving specific hardware faults that occur by automatically opening service requests for Oracle's qualified server, storage, Exadata and Exalogic systems.
